Day 1

Billykiss’ Travel Diary: Trip in Kuala Lumpur| Malaysia – Your Favourite Muse

Since my flight was in the afternoon, I hadn’t the chance to do much today day.  By the time I finally arrived in Kuala Lumpur I was exhausted! I’d spend the night before doing last minute packing (bad idea), so didn’t get the chance to sleep much. So I went straight to my hotel to checked in. Afterwards, I went to Plaza Low Yat, a nearby shopping mall to get some food as hunger soon crept in. I went to the restaurant Kopi Club and got the Nasi Goreng Ayam Ber (fried rice with fried chicken and cooked lettuce) and Ice Mango Tea. I was so hungry that I chopped it down so quickly but honestly the meal itself wasn’t the best.

Today was filled with many exciting and heart-racing adventures. To begin the day, the inner shopaholic in me decided to visit Suria KLCC which is a massive shopping mall with numerous floors and endless stores. From then I went to see the famous Petronas Twin Towers, which is absolutely magnificent, even in the scorching heat I was gazing at it in awe for ages (I’m such a tourist).

Then I went to get some lunch from a restaurant called Warisan and ordered Nasi Kukus Ayam Goreng Berempah (steam rice, amazing grilled chicken with some awesome spicy sauce and some pineapple and lettuce on the side) and Ice Milo. It was absolutely delicious, and incredibly filling. But still went to get a  sugar donut in Starbucks, to enjoy their free wifi.

The evening was when all the fun began as I headed to Batu Cave, which is one of the most famous Hindu shrines and famous loyal tourist attraction outside the city. Everything seemed fine until I found myself surrounded by numerous crazy monkeys 328 ft. high, from that moment I discovered how much I was petrified of these scary creatures. The top of the cave was quite disappointing however, as for some reason I expected more.

Today was another great day. Firstly I had Mee Hoon Goreng (Fried Mee Hoon), a plate of fresh fruits, tea and some orange juice breakfast.

Then I went to visit the Islamic Art Museum. I’d plan to initially only spend a few minutes there, however two hours later, I was still there observing and gazing as the many unique and incredible artwork. By the time I decided to leave I’d taken over 200 photos (don’t worry I only included a few). From there I paid a quick visit to the beautiful National Mosque of Malaysia.

After, I finally got to try fresh coconut water from an actually coconut and it was sooo refreshly good. Definitely a lifesaver in the 37 degrees heat.

Then I went to Chinatown and bought a couple of gifts for my friends and family. The day ended with me diving into a buffet of pakistani cuisine at a restaurant called Paradise. I got some vegetable pulao (fried rice), big and small fried chicken (cause I love chicken and I’m extra), suji Halwa (triangle), vegetable sauce and some garlic naan bread  with some Ice Milo of course. Everything was so amazing, especially the garlic naan which are my favourites.

Today was my final day in Kuala Lumpur and honestly I didn’t want to leave.

I got up early and visited Thean Hou Temple, which is the biggest chinese temple in Kuala Lumpur. Many chinese people go there to worship and pray to the god of mercy, some even get married there, which I witnessed. Can’t even begin to describe how beautiful the temple is, hope the photos I took can do the talking.

From there I went to Berjaya Times Square and after getting overwhelmed by the multiple endless number of stores, I decided to get some snack. Since I’ve got the biggest sweet tooth, I got a white chocolate chip cookie from Famous Amos and a sugar cinnamon pretzel from Auntie Anne’s, both were quite disappointing as I found them very difficult to chew. However the star of the show was my beverage which was a caramel cream frappuccino with chocolate chips, cream and caramel drizzled on top from no other than Starbucks. It was the best thing ever and I went back to Singapore extremely satisfied.

Hey guys, so in relation to the post title, I thought I’d share 5 things I love to do that keeps me on top of Life.

1. Eating. If you follow me on snapchat (billykissa) you’d know that I love to eat and I’m constantly doing so. When it comes to thai fried rice, sweet potato fries and chocolate filled waffles, I have no self control and can’t say no.
2. Listening to Music . I’m a music fanatic, I’ll admit it. I’m one of those people who listens to music while doing anything and everything; cooking, cleaning, brushing my teeth, you name it.
3. Talking to myself. I really shouldn’t share this but I enjoy talking to myself. I do so regularly and honestly, it’s quite therapeutical.
4. Talking to friends . Now, I’m not that weird, I also really enjoy talking to my good friends. Being a good or bad day, nothing beats, grabbing the phone and having those long conversations where we both end up laughing until we’ve tears in our eyes.
5. Taking Naps. There’s something magical about naps. I won’t lie, as soon as I wake up, I feel refreshed and relaxed, until reality kicks in again.

Hey guys, Happy Monday!
Hope your week is starting off right and the day is going great. Mine was, despite me having an early 8:30am lecture and quiz this morning, until my travel card just happened to disappear immediately right after I’d topped it off! I know, let’s just say I can be quite careless at times. Nevertheless I bought some comfort food (waffles with melted chocolate, my favourite) and got over it.
Currently I’m listening to Bryson Tiller’s album – Trapsoul (for the 100th time). My favourite songs are “Exchange”, “Don’t”, “Been that Way”, “Let Em’ Know” and “Right My Wrongs” (I know basically the whole album, lol). I’m now contemplating whether I should catch up on some Scandal and The Originals or start my group presentation. Think I’ll go with the first option, it’s been a pretty long day after all.

Seven months ago, I left home and got on a sixteen hours flight to the other side of the world, to start my exchange programme in a country called Singapore. Singapore despite being one of Asia’s smallest country, is a well developed and modernised country. English is the primary language spoken there but as well as that, many also speak Mandarin Chinese, which was the main reason why I had chosen to study there.

Like any student (who chooses to study abroad), I was extremely excited to start this new journey. I wanted a change in lifestyle and a new experience, but even more I’d been told by past students in my position, that their year abroad was by far, their BEST YEAR EVER! That being said I had no idea what living and studying in a completely different country would be like.

Cultural shock hit me hard! For the first few days I was filled with the excitement of being somewhere new, so I did it all. I started with visiting famous tourist attractions (Chinatown, Orchard Road, Bugis Street and Marina Bay Sands) and shopped a lot. I went to many parties and met people from different parts of the world. To top it up, local food here is extremely affordable so I was eating well. Some could say I had it all and was living the LIFE.

But soon this feeling wore off. As time went on I started to feel a huge sense of loneliness, something I never thought would be a problem since I’m usually quite content with being by myself. To make it worse, I began to get really sick as my body was finding it hard to adapt to the climate difference. So in attempts to fill this empty void, I’d call everyone and anyone back home. Keep in mind there’s an eight hours time difference so you can imagine how impractical it was.

Fast forward to now and I still get quite homesick from time to time but I’ve learnt to deal with it. This year has by far been the toughest year of my life but also pretty great. There has been times when I felt as if this was all a big mistake and why had I chosen to come to Singapore now. But despite everything, I don’t regret it. The past few months have been interesting, something I would never forget, or change.

My advice for anyone considering studying abroad. Think about it, think deeply about it because it is tough and not everyone can or will be able to handle it. Save up, a lot (trust me you’d thank me later). And if you want to do it, do it but do it wholeheartedly, be prepared for sunshine and rainbows but also thunder and storm because the experience will definitely challenge you like no other. But we all love a good challenge, don’t we!

Hey guys, HAPPY NEW MONTH!
Hope you’re having a great week so far and the month is starting off right. It’s quite weird because while I can swear that everyone and their mama were claiming that January felt like a never-ending month, it flew for me.
This outfit is definitely a different feel from the last but with me, when it comes to style and fashion, I’m someone who doesn’t have a particular kind of style but if i like something, I’ll wear it. So definitely stay tune for a mixture of more different types of outfits and styles here on my blog.
Thank’s for reading,
Billykiss
